1. What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)?

PMAY is a credit-linked subsidy scheme by the Government of India providing affordable housing to the urban and rural poor.

3. Detailed Eligibility Criteria & Income Categories

The core eligibility revolves around family income and checking if the family owns a pucca house.

  • EWS (Economically Weaker Section): Annual Income up to ₹3 Lakh. Maximum carpet area: 30 sq.m.
  • LIG (Low Income Group): Annual Income ₹3 Lakh to ₹6 Lakh. Maximum carpet area: 60 sq.m.
  • MIG-I (Middle Income Group I): Annual Income ₹6 Lakh to ₹12 Lakh. Maximum carpet area: 160 sq.m.
  • MIG-II (Middle Income Group II): Annual Income ₹12 Lakh to ₹18 Lakh. Maximum carpet area: 200 sq.m.

Note: The woman of the family should be the owner or co-owner of the property for EWS/LIG categories (mandatory for new property).

To apply for PMAY, keep the following documents ready:

  • Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card (Mandatory), PAN Card, Voter ID.
  • Address Proof: Utility bills, Ration Card.
  • Income Proof: Salary Slips, ITR, Form 16, Bank Statements (last 6 months).
  • Property Proof: Agreement to Sale, Chain documents, Property registration.
  • Affidavit: Stating that you do not own a pucca house anywhere in India.

5. How to Apply Online (PMAY-U)

  1. Visit the official website: PMAY-MIS Official Website.
  2. Under the 'Citizen Assessment' menu, select 'Apply Online'.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar Number and Name.
  4. Fill in the application form with personal, income, and bank details.
  5. Submit the form and note down the 'Application ID' for future tracking.
  6. Alternatively, you can visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) for assistance.
